Toxic waste, however, can not be completely blamed on industry. There are chemical wastes in your home that are classified as "toxic waste". Cleaning products, cosmetics, and chemicals found in fertilizers and pesticides all can be forms of waste that cause harmful effects to our earth and the things living on it. It is up to us to discard these items in a proper manner. Here is a link on how to safely recycle your toxic waste and related products: http://www.epa.gov/osw/hazard/recycling/industrial.htm
You must be asking yourself, "How can I reduce my trash impact on our beautiful earth?". Here is a simple list that should be followed by everyone.
1. Reduce waste and pollution.
2. Reuse as many things as possible.
3. Recycle and compost as much waste as possible.
4. Chemically or biologically treat or incinerate waste that can't be reduced, reused, recycled, or composted.
5. After the first four goals have been met, bury what is left in state-of-the-art landfills or above-ground vaults.

If things in our houses are classified as toxic waste (such as cleaning supplies), what effect is that having on our health and they health of our pets?
ReplyDeleteis the things that are called toxic waste killing us as humans and also our pets? Is there anything we can do to help this?
ReplyDeleteBrendan, that is very interesting I did not realize that we have what is considered as toxic waste in our own homes!
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't realize how many things can be considered toxic waste. Do they have to put that on the package if its toxic, on products such as household cleaners or cosmetics so the buyer knows?
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that many of the cleaners and cosmetics etc. in our homes are considered toxic waste. After the first 3 steps are taken would step 4 just add to the harmfulness of the toxic products by burning them and releasing dangerous chemicals into the air.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that a lot of our things in our house have toxic waste! Shouldn't they put a label on the bottle or something saying that?
